RICHMOND, Va. (June 4, 2009) - CRT/tanaka, an award-winning public relations and marketing firm known for creative solutions and workplace culture, was honored with a Silver Best in Show Award, three Silver Medallion awards, two Bronze Medallion awards and a Bronze Certificate of Merit at the 62nd Annual Virginia Public Relations Awards Ceremony on June 3, 2009.
The Virginia Public Relations Awards are presented each June by the Richmond Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the world’s largest professional association for public relations practitioners. PRSA Richmond’s awards programs are widely recognized, and award recipients are acknowledged as outstanding in their efforts, or in their career and accomplishments.
This year, CRT/tanaka was recognized for superior public relations and marketing work for five different campaigns.
George Washington Foundation - Uncovering George Washington’s Boyhood Home
In just six short weeks and with only $35,000, CRT/tanaka conducted an international media relations campaign for the George Washington Foundation surrounding the announcement that it had located the remains of George Washington’s boyhood home in Stafford County, Va. The campaign garnered coverage across the United States and in India, France, Australia, the United Kingdom and Japan.
Bow Tie Cinemas - Movieland Grand Opening
Bow Tie Cinemas partnered with CRT/tanaka to connect with the Richmond community and build excitement for Movieland’s entrance into the market. The CRT/tanaka team developed a multi-faceted public relations plan that complemented the theater’s advertising campaign and focused on media relations, influencer outreach, street marketing and several grand opening events.
Charles Schwab & Co. Inc. - Charles Schwab Financial Literacy and Consumer Education
For the past several years, CRT/tanaka has supported the Charles Schwab Consumer Education and Charles Schwab Foundation teams to bolster their financial literacy education efforts. In 2008, CRT/tanaka developed and executed a strategic media outreach plan designed to raise awareness of basic financial knowledge and responsible fiscal behaviors among consumers.
Council for Responsible Nutrition - “Life…supplemented” Campaign
CRT/tanaka worked with the Council for Responsible Nutrition to conduct a consumer-focused campaign positioning nutritional supplements as one of the “three pillars” of health and wellness. A key element of the campaign was the creation of a Lifesupplemented.org Web site, including an interactive tool called “My Wellness Scorecard.” Media coverage of “Life…supplemented” included features in Real Simple, Prevention and Woman’s Day magazines and spots on morning TV shows in Top 10 markets. The result was an estimated audience of 179 million and 92,860 Web site visitors.
Longwood University - Cable Television Promotion
CRT/tanaka worked with Longwood University to develop a cable television promotion, which was shot on campus and featured university students and faculty sharing key Longwood brand messages with prospective students. The promotion aired in Northern Virginia, Richmond and Hampton Roads on networks popular with teens, and played a significant role in increasing visitor traffic to campus.
