NEW YORK (June 5, 2009) - CRT/tanaka, an award-winning public relations and marketing firm known for creative solutions and workplace culture, was recently honored with a Silver Anvil award, the highest honor given in the PR industry, and a Bronze Anvil award given for creative PR tactics, both awarded by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the world’s largest organization for PR professionals.

The Silver Anvil, which recognizes outstanding achievement in strategic public relations planning and implementation, was presented during the Silver Anvil Awards Evening held June 4 in New York. CRT/tanaka received a Silver Anvil award for its work with the Air New Zealand “Pink Flight” in the events and observances: seven or fewer days (business-services) category. The agency also earned a Bronze Advil in the external video programs category for its work with Wines from Rioja (Spain).

 Air New Zealand “Pink Flight”

While Air New Zealand is a household name in its native country, off shore, the airline is a small carrier in a saturated market. In order to develop brand awareness and differentiation in North America, Air New Zealand decided to host an event that would communicate its diversity-embracing brand culture, introduce the airline to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) market and garnere media attention on a national scale.

With the support of CRT/tanaka, Air New Zealand launched the first North American gay-themed “Pink Flight” to Sydney, Australia - host of the world’s largest Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras - successfully showcasing its award-winning customer service and unique personality, generating 352 million impressions, and contributing to a 24 percent increase in Air New Zealand’s sales in the North American market.

 Wines from Rioja Educational Documentary

In partnership with the Culinary Institute of America, CRT/tanaka created a first-of-its-kind educational documentary and companion Web site with downloadable podcasts about the vibrant Spanish wine region of Rioja. This multi-media program allows viewers to experience Rioja first hand through interviews with its leading winemakers and chefs and “rising star” sommeliers from America filmed while traveling throughout the region, as well as vivid tours of vineyards, wineries and restaurants that make this Spain’s pre-eminent wine region.
